Transforming lives through agriculture, entrepreneurship, and community development in Mbale District, Uganda.
Mbale Women's Empowerment Agenda (MWEA) started as a Christian saving women group in April 2016 based in Wangito village, Tsabanyanya Parish, Bukasakya sub-county in Mbale District.
We came together to implement our ideas in crop farming, animal husbandry, poultry, liquid soap making, mushroom farming, and re-usable sanitary pads production. Through collective contribution, we're working to transform our community.
Our vision is to transform the lives of women and others by embracing hard work which will translate into self-reliance in essential basics of life like good shelter, good health, good education and developing a saving culture.
To transform families and society through the empowement of women.
To help members get a better life for both themselves and those around them by being financially stable and owning assets.
We engage in sustainable crop farming practices to ensure food security and generate income for our members.
Our livestock projects include poultry, goats, and cattle rearing to diversify income sources.
Promoting climate-resilient food production through vertical sack gardening, enabling year-round vegetable cultivation with minimal water and space requirements.
We cultivate high-value mushrooms as a sustainable agricultural enterprise with minimal space requirements.
Empowering women with skills to produce high-quality liquid soap for personal hygiene and commercial sales, fostering entrepreneurship and financial independence.
We produce affordable, eco-friendly sanitary pads to promote menstrual hygiene and create employment.
We provide training in modern farming techniques to improve yields and sustainability.
Our agricultural training program covers sustainable farming practices, crop rotation, soil management, pest control, and post-harvest handling. We work with agricultural experts to ensure our members receive the most up-to-date information and techniques.
Training sessions are held monthly and include both classroom instruction and hands-on field practice. We also provide resources for members to implement these techniques on their own farms.
We educate members on savings, investments, and financial management.
Our financial literacy program teaches basic money management skills, including budgeting, saving, and responsible borrowing. We also provide information on investment opportunities and how to access microfinance services.
Through partnerships with local financial institutions, we help members open savings accounts and access small business loans. We believe financial independence is key to breaking the cycle of poverty.
We offer support to people living with HIV/AIDS and other vulnerable groups.
Our community support services include counseling, health education, and assistance with accessing medical care. We work closely with local health centers to ensure our members receive the care they need.
We also provide support groups for people living with HIV/AIDS and their families, helping to reduce stigma and promote understanding within the community. Our outreach programs target the most vulnerable members of our society.
We provide training in tailoring, hairdressing, and other vocational skills.
Our vocational training programs include tailoring, hairdressing, baking, liquid soap making, and reusable sanitary pad production. These skills provide alternative income sources for our members.
Training is provided by skilled artisans within our community, ensuring that the skills taught are relevant and marketable. We also help graduates access startup kits and connect with potential customers.
Implementing sustainable farming practices resilient to climate change and environmental challenges.
Our Climate Smart Agriculture program focuses on techniques that increase productivity, enhance resilience, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We train farmers in water conservation, soil management, and crop diversification strategies adapted to changing climate patterns.
Key components include:
We work with meteorological services to provide climate information services that help farmers make informed decisions about planting and harvesting times.
